I'm thinking about quitting as well.
No, it wont matter if we "minor artists" leave, we have no prints, our subscriptions are either ending or nonexistent, you can't get any money from us. You could care less.
But i still have hope.
Hope that someday, the "major artists", the ones with the subscriptions that will probably last even after they're dead, the ones that actually have more prints than deviations, i hope that they realize your decline, and decide to leave you.
What'll happen then?

First of all, if you want to quit DA, go ahead a do it. No one's keeping you. Having a subscription doesn't mean anything other than "you get a bunch of special features that lets your browse easier and have more fun" (And just to clarify, I never had a subscription until about a week ago as a gift). Do consider one thing though: YOU ARE ON THE INTERNET. The internet is full of bullshit, emo-rantings, likes and hates. Honestly, I don't blame DA for being scared of being sued by copyright thingers and angry parents who think their children are looking at porn. I've had some of my Deviations taken down before because of "copyright material" such as screencaps and been notified to about "mature content" for life drawings... of boobs. Just. Boobs. Breasts. Tits. Okay sure. It's an ART COMMUNITY, people. You are uploading under another name. You can go upload "mature content" pictures on your own website, but don't get DA involved. You chose to join DA, you can chose to leave! I do agree though that there should be a difference between "Mature ART" and "Mature CONTENT" such as "ART" and "PURE SEX". Even when I go to a contemporary art display/museum, they checked my ID or made sure kids were with their parents before walking into a room with walls painted with naked women, men, and curse words. I do agree though... that it is ridiculous how you are unable to view your OWN Mature Deviations. (They should really fix that '_' )
Do understand though that there are some other aspects of DA that I do not like (Aside from its usual glitches and bugs as well). BUT not specifically DA but rather, the PEOPLE on DA. You might get bashed, get stupid comments, arguments, or not get recognized at all: but that's not DA's fault. DA isn't supposed to protect you or advertise you, you choose to do that yourself. Under the subject of "advertisement", I've been seeing DA's "Ad system" which I think is rather ridiculous in some aspects. BUT, I have clicked on them many times and have seen some *really* good artists. But that's what you get for joining a community where some people will like your style, some people will hate it, etc etc.
I think the DA Ad-system, Subscriptons, Dev-Wear and all that is a little ridiculous? but at least they have the option open. Someone has to make some money somehow, right? At least they're not forcing you to buy something (Although they're advertising it everywhere but... I'll say again: INTERNET.)

LOLZ indeed! I could really care less about the popularity situation. The only reason I have many "pageviews" and "watchers" (which are, apparently, very important to some of you, I know) is because I started with ONE fan-based comic. I didn't continue making comics because I wanted pageviews, I continue because I love making people laugh. I think the person who inspired me was Kuroineko.DeviantArt: when I first saw her comics, I was so happy; they cheered me up so much -- and I wanted to try and do the same.

Anyway I went completely off topic... My point is: Don't blame DA, the art community, for their policies. Don't get upset over the Mature Content policy. I know that at... age 17 its like "Aghh My birthday is next week, this is retarded!" Well, that's DA's policy: you can go to another art community or start your own. But I believe the real issue behind this are: angry parents. A non-artist could also join DA (Gasp!) and some kid could be looking at some nudes or figure drawings -- their parents walk in, "What are you doing?!" And the kid replies, "Don't worry mommy, it's art!" (Yesss that excuse doesn't really work everytime... lol~). It's just unsafe for the people working on DA.
You decided you join, you can leave when you want. If you don't think you're popular, and say "my art sucks, I'm never going to be popular, others are so much better than me--" Please. Either get a live journal or grow up. I have totally been through this phase before. I know people 5 years younger than me who are drawing like professionals: and I wonder why they arn't recognized more. All YOU need to do is try harder: practice more, don't just draw the same style over and over but try to work in different styles: even the ones you hate.

YES, DA should change some or many things to improve the community. But don't blame DA in general when the people on DA can be harsh or just don't understand your style/drawing.
If you are an artist and say you are an artist: I do NOT suggest you give up just because of some stupid popularity contest and because other people bash you or whatever the issue may be. But if you want to give up and say you're giving up as an artist: by all means go ahead! It's all YOUR choice I'm just being kind in supporting you with what you want to do and not arguing about it any further than that.
